Major Spanish newspaper claim that Barca will soon close a new deal with the Mexican international Rafael Marquez.
Player`s agent, Enrique Nieto, met yesterday with Txiki Begiristain to negotiate extending the contract for two more years. Reportedly, although no agreement was reached, the two sides are now engaged in the final stage of the negotiations.
“We are looking to agree on some details, but overall there shouldn`t be any problems with Marquez extending his contract”, said the agent.
The meeting between Barca officials and Marquez representative was held outside the offices of Camp Nou. The club proposed to Marquez a new contract that would last up until 2012 and although the two sides are yet to agree on figures, the stay of Rafael Marquez was never in question. “Marquez feels very good in Barcelona and wants to stay for years to come”, said Nieto.
