You have always said that you wanted to join Barca and you made it.

I’ve always tried to make my own decisions which would benefit me. I can only thank God to make this dream a reality. Since I’ve been a little boy, I’ve always liked Barca over other clubs, even Brazilian ones.

Did you like Barca so much because of Romario?

Yes. But also Ronaldo. They are two strikers that I’ve always admired for their style of playing. I was inspired by them and I usually went out on the street where I tried to imitate them. Now, that I am about to sign for Barca I remember all those moment. I can hardly believe it.

It really is an incredible achievement.

Yes. I have always dreamed of playing in Barca, to wear this shirt and I now I’m about to do it, with only 20 years of age. With help from a lot of people I’ve been able to achieve it. I wanted to go in Barca and Barca wanted me.

How did you react when you heard about Barca’s interest?

It was a moment of great joy for me, but at the same time also motivation and I tried to do my best while playing in Brazil in order to present my best football. I’ve been working very hard and I have to maintain the level of motivation.

You had a huge part yourself in the transfer.

Things went fairly smoothly because me and my representatives prepared for a possible negotiation. We’ve always tried to do things properly in order to avoid being prejudiced for being incorrect. Thus we avoided many complications in my transfer.

There was a “Barca clause”.

I told the club that I wanted to go to Barca, thus we arranged a clause that would make the talks much easier with the buy-out clause not being so huge.

Pep Guardiola announced that you would be loaned out.

I am happy to be a part of Barca. It’ll be good for me to play in some other club in order to get me acquainted with the European football. I don’t see any problems in it. I know that the club wants only the best for me. I will do my best and will be prepared for the moment when the club calls me back.

But do you feel prepared to play in the Camp Nou already?

I know that I’ve reached the level to play in Barca. I feel prepared, but I am aware that you always have to improve your game because the football is so dynamic. Being in the foreign country, will allow me to grow even more.

Is this a huge leap to go from Brazil to the team that won a triplet?

Barca is the best team in the world. For my part, I know I can contribute a lot to the team. To play with such great players makes me very happy, especially to play alongside Messi. I really admire him.

Is your style of playing similar to Barca’s philosophy?

I’m able to play different styles; whichever the coach wants me to play. If you play alongside great players then everything is much easier.

For a striker having players like Messi, Xavi and Iniesta in the same team makes things much easier.

They are the players that make a difference and let you to face a goalkeeper more often. The midfield is a place where everything is built up and Barca is always playing offensively. This is perfect for a striker, who has an objective to score as many goals as possible.

A lot of cules have seen you on Youtube. What kind of player are you?

Very straightforward. On the field I try to do what football demands. Thank God, like many coaches have told me I have a knack for scoring goals. I have a straightforward style of playing and make my decisions rapidly. There is also a phrase that defines my style of playing: “In football there are only two secrets: one and two.”
