Joan Laporta fc barcelona

According to Catalan press, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta threatened the president of Extremadura and called him an “imbecile” during a phone call after being accused of using FC Barcelona as a stepping stone towards his political ambitions.

In his column in Spanish newspaper “Marca”, Guillermo Fernandez Vara asked Laporta to stop talking about Catalan independence. Vara explained that he was unhappy with Laporta making it all about Catalunya while there are millions of Barca fans living in other parts of Spain.

Reportedly, Laporta’s responded by phoning Fernandez Vara, and calling him an “imbecile” and “a terrible Barca fan”.
“Write about Barca, but don’t ever write about me again or I’ll show you”, were the alleged Laporta’s words.

Our village is in the valencia region, but is full of Barca fans.
If catalunya was given independence barca would (rightly) have to leave the spanish league and only play espanyol and tarragona, plus some minor clubs.
    Plus…No copa del rey either.
    That would be boring.
Some people need to consider that point.
Not every Barca fan is pro catalan independence. Laporta has been excellent as president, but needs to consider the whole clubs fanbase worldwide.

You are right Tony. But what would become of the spanish league if barca were to leave? Pretty much a real madrid training exercise

Would it not be possible to be independent but remain a member of the Spanish F,A? Surely that would be in everyone’s interests.

  4. Dan says:

I know this is heresy, but it’s perfectly legitimate for supporters of Catalan independence (even those affiliated with FCB) to give this movement priority over football. Whatever happens to La Liga and Copa del Rey should be an afterthought if one’s first priority is Catalan independence.

  5. YASSIR says:

monaco is an independent state but have a football team that plays in french league 1, so barcelona could follow and play in la liga even if catalunya is independent.

  6. Tony says:

Dont you think that the other clubs would see it as a opportunity to improve themselves. With few away fans at spanish league matches, they would not be any serious financial drawbacks for the other clubs and improve their own chances of success. One less big club to compete against and the other clubs would take advantage of the situation. Independence could prove a disaster for the catalan area clubs and if i ran one of the other clubs i would not want a non spanish club, in the spanish league.
An extra euro place and more chance of winning something.

  7. Tony says:

Monaco is tiny and could not sustain its own league. Celtic and Rangers want to join the english league, but its never happened due to opposition from all sides. If catalunya had enough clubs to support its own national league, it would have to develop that. The only way out for Barca would be a euro super league and what then happens to the left behind catalan clubs.
Politics and sport dont mix…and should be kept seperate at all times. Its a dangerous path to go down and not supported by all the clubs supporters. I support Barca has a football team, not a political movement.

  8. Franco is long dead,I do not think that Catalan independence is necessary.I think regions should have more powers and central governments should only assist the regions.Laporta should apologize to the man,he is a fan,you do not threaten someone who loves you.Is it legal to listen in to people’s phone calls?

  9. Guardiola says:

La porta is a sse..hole im a barcafan and live in the netherlands ,i hope they
changed this guy soon its a shame for fc barcelona!
