Laporta:”I hope Marquez stays with us for years to come”
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta praised the Mexican international and said he hoped that Rafa Marquez stays on at Barca.
Upon his arrival to Mexico today where he is scheduled to inaugurate two charitable football centers, FC Barcelona president revealed: “We are awaiting for Marquez’ renewal and I am confident that before the end of the year we will clarify his status and that Rafa will stay with us for years to come”.
Rafael Marquez, who has 8 months remaining on his contract, traveled to Mexico with Joan Laporta to attend the opening of football schools funded by Barca solidarity project. “Those are the schools in which we promote solidarity through sport, and we try to give an integral contribution to community through education and social support for children,” described Laporta.
FC Barcelona will invest over 300,000 euros over the next three years for these centers in Mexico, which will host a total of 400 children. ”We are really excited because this way Barça can give back to society and I believe this should be our responsibility,” said Laporta.

Rafa was key for Barca last season .. he got injured towards the end of the season but had been there when it counted. Also he played well last game against Almeria, distributing passes while Xavi was “heavily marked” by Chico.
The thing is, in Barca only a few selected players are always on the first team .. Guadiola likes to rotate his squad. Even Puyol has been on the bench this season, such is the quality of the Barca players.
