Messi: “We players have trust in Pep”
FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has heaped praise on coach Pep Guardiola, and also not forgotten how much Barça has done for both him and his family.
Talking to UEFA.com, the Argentinian player stated that what Pep has given to the team is very important to the team’s success.
“I think that the club believes in the vision that he has brought to all the players,” Messi said of Guardiola. “He has the trust of everyone, and us players have trust in him”.
“We try to adapt his visions, and we work with a lot of happiness and desire”.
“Step by step it works out. Guardiola is someone who knows a lot about footballl. He also really knows how to transmit his ideas to his players, and this is something that he has done all year – giving us ideas which makes being on the pitch easier for us. We really trust him, the work we do all year, the seriousness with which we take things, and how the coaches and players train and approach the games”
Last season, Messi played a crucial role in the club’s triplet-winning campaign, but the Argentinian player refuses to take all of the credit.
“I think that if you look back it was the effort of the whole team that achieved that”.
“Of course we scored the goals in attack, but we received the balls from the back, and from midfield. So it’s really due to teamwork that we played such attractive football”.
“We have a lot of options in attack, and if it’s up to me to finsh a move then it’s because of the work of the whole team”.
Messi joined the club as a fragile 13 year old, but due to the input of both the club and his family, he has arrived at where he is today.
“The club and the people here have treated me well,” Messi stated. “They have always told me what I needed. They have treated me and my family very well. All of this has resulted in my football, and my joy at being here. The people care for me here, and I really like being here as well”.
“And now I try to return all this love with football,” the forward added.
Finally Messi commented on the feel-good-factor that Pep has brought to the team.
“We’ve been enjoying ourselves all year. This has been a great thing, that from the start, above all, we were able to enjoy ourselves on the pitch. And we also had the good fortune that the fans enjoyed it with us”.
