The directors met yesterday and had an informal dinner in a boardroom at Camp Nou. They started off discussing the work Laporta has done and later on they touched upon the subject of his possible successor. Laporta was the last to join the group, due to being delayed in London for some personal reasons.

The main reason for the dinner was that each of the directors provided a sincere and objective opinion on the forthcoming elections. Allegedly, the majority agreed that the best candidate to replace Joan Laporta would be the second vice president Jaume Ferrer.

The perfect candidate for Laporta had been Alfons Godall, but the latter decided to resign. Consequently, Laporta was left without a candidate and he came forth with a new idea that another option might be Xavier Sala i Martin who has a lot of experience in economics and could be an ideal candidate for the new FC Barcelona president.

However, the majority was against appointing Sala i Martin as the new president which was a huge blow for all of his supporters. The main argument of those against Sala i Martin’s appointment as the new president was that they needed someone who has been with the club for a longer period of the time and has more experience in this field. Once again, the name Jaume Ferrer came to into the limelight. He has been with the club since June 15, 2003 and is thus generally considered to be a perfect candidate to be given a chance. Laporta and Ferrer have had many talks already, vehemently providing arguments for their ideas.

Those who still have not decided to pick their candidate wait for Sala i Martin and Ferrer to present their visions and projections for the future of the club. All agreed that the presidential campaign should be based on cohesion, not provoking any controversies around the club especially now when the club is functioning in such an impeccable way. To amplify the necessity of a friendly and fair behaviour was the main purpose of yesterday’s dinner.
