Yaya to get a more offensive role
Yaya Toure a prolific defensive midfielder could be appointed to a new task. Witnessing many fruitful trips forward, Pep decided to give a try and present Yaya with a new, more offensive role. The Ivorian midfielder came to Barcelona explicitly as a defensive midfielder, but with the style of playing and philosophy of Barca he became an important protagonist of the offensive mindset.
He had a brief spell as a central defender last season, following Barca’s injuries woes and suspensions due to bookings. Outstanding marking, physical presence and concentration are just a few notions that depict his last years’ level of the game.
Pep has ruminated upon the possibility of rotating Yaya as the attacking midfielder, hence allowing to take some pressure of Iniesta who would consequently be able to play on the left wing more often.
Last year’s performance against Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey finals left a huge impact when he scored a wonderful goal, at the same demonstrating his offensive skills with breathtaking dribbling. Something similar happened in the last game against Tottenham on Wembley when he cut into the penalty box and made an obstacle-free path for Bojan who scored a goal.
Noooø…. Pep leave Yaya at the defensive role and let him still continue cutting through.
toure seems to excel wherever pep puts him, but i guess his best place is the DM role where he really shines, i just hope this guy stays at barcelona many years beyond his current contract which expires at 2012.
yaya should play his DM role. we need Iniesta to provide his quick and precise passes… this way Ibra would have no excuse for not scoring… yaya can always cut in…
Yaya’s like a steamroller,he can plough his way through 6 or 7 players with ease.
Yaya is one of those players who isn’t given as much praise as he deserves,the guy is top drawer.
